How are words counted?
Words are found with the browser's own text segmentation, so contractions like "don't", hyphenated words like "state-of-the-art", decimals like 3.14 and web addresses each count as one word, and punctuation on its own is never counted.
How is reading and speaking time worked out?
Reading time assumes 238 words per minute, the average adult silent-reading speed. Speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, a comfortable pace for a speech or voiceover. Both are rounded up to the next whole minute.
What does the keyword density table show?
It lists the ten words you use most, ignoring upper and lower case, with how many times each appears and what percentage of all your words that is. Turn on "Hide common words" to leave out words like "the", "and" and "of" so the topic words stand out.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything is counted in your browser as you type, so your text never leaves your device and nothing is stored.
