Which input formats work?
Whatever your browser can decode — in practice PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, ICO and SVG everywhere, plus AVIF in current Chrome, Firefox and Safari. HEIC photos from an iPhone only decode in Safari 17+; Chrome and Firefox have no HEIC decoder, so those files show an error row rather than silently producing a blank image.
Why did my file get bigger?
Converting a photo to PNG almost always grows it: PNG is lossless, so it cannot throw away the detail JPEG and WebP discard. Going the other way — a screenshot from PNG to JPEG — can also grow if the image is flat colour and text, which PNG compresses better than either lossy format. The Saved column shows the real change, including when it is negative.
What happens to animated GIFs and transparency?
An animated GIF or WebP keeps only its first frame — the canvas the converter draws to holds one image. Transparency survives into PNG and WebP; JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick (white by default) instead of turning black.
Is there a size limit?
No file-size limit, but output is capped at 16 megapixels (about 4600×3500) because Safari on iOS silently returns a blank canvas above roughly that area. Anything larger is scaled down proportionally and the tool says so. Very large batches are limited by your device's memory, not by any rule here.
